RALEIGH – A large drainage pipe has failed, resulting in a full closure of a road south of Raleigh.
Penny Road closed overnight where the pipe runs under the road just south of Yates Mill Pond Road. The pipe failure led to the slope failing and undermining of the road.
The repair is expected to take several weeks. Until the work is complete, drivers will be detoured along Olde South Road, Countryview Lane and Yates Mill Pond Road to access points on either side of the closure.
Drivers are urged to factor the detour into their trips and to be mindful of crews working over the coming weeks to reopen the road.
