This Week at NCDOT: Hurricane Season Underway, DMV State ID Renewal and Saturday Hours, NC By Train Kids Fare

RALEIGH - The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.

Hurricane Season Underway

June first is the official start to hurricane season.

With the potential impact severe weather can have on our roadways and travel, the N.C. Department of Transportation is prepped and ready to mobilize when a storm threatens our state.

Motorists are encouraged to visit ReadyNC.gov for important hurricane season information including current weather alerts, road conditions, and evacuation routes for your area.

Plan, prepare, and stay informed.

DMV State ID Renewal and Saturday Hours

The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles continues to roll out improvements to enhance customer service.

Customers can now renew state-issued identification cards online up to one year after expiration.

Previously, once these credentials had expired, these renewals and upgrades had to be done in-person at a driver license office.

In addition, 16 driver license offices will offer services to walk-in customers only from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This change will take effect beginning June 3rd and last through August 26th.

For a list of those locations, or to renew your state ID and learn more about our online services, visit MyNCDMV.gov.
