Ramp Closures Upcoming for I-440 Project

RALEIGH – Several temporary ramp closures are scheduled to begin this weekend as part of the ongoing Interstate 440 improvements project in west Raleigh.

About 9 p.m. Friday, crews plan to close the I-440 West ramp to Melbourne Road to begin reconstructing the ramp in what will be its final pattern. The work is expected to last through the morning of July 17. Until then, drivers will be detoured to continue on I-440 West and follow Jones Franklin Road, Western Boulevard and Powell Drive to access Melbourne Road.

Throughout the same timeframe as the work above, crews plan to start constructing a new section of I-440 West between Western Boulevard and Melbourne Road. This work will require periodic overnight closures of the right lane of the Beltline along this stretch and possible the ramp from Western Boulevard to I-440 West on some nights.

Starting later Friday night, crews plan to close the I-440 East ramp to Jones Franklin Road to repair the ramp where it was damaged during recent rainstorms. This work will take a day or longer, depending on the extent of the damage to below the surface. The repair may also require closing the loop ramp from Jones Franklin Road to I-440 East. Until the I-440 off-ramp reopens, drivers on I-440 East will be detoured to Western Boulevard and I-440 West to return to the Jones Franklin Road exit.

All of this work is weather dependent and subject to change.

Drivers should watch for crews close to the travel lanes in work zone over the next couple weeks and allow extra time for the detours.
