MATTHEWS – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will temporarily close the I-485 Inner Loop at East John Street (exit 52) for two nights next week, weather permitting. The closures are necessary to safely perform bridge construction at the interchange associated with the I-485 express lanes project.
All lanes will close on the inner loop just after midnight Monday and Tuesday nights and will open back to traffic by 2 a.m. the following mornings. Drivers will be detoured from I-485 Inner to exit 52, continuing over the E. John Street bridge back to the inner loop. Law enforcement will be present to assist with traffic flow on East John Street.
Drivers should be mindful of crews working in these locations and allow extra time to reach their destination.
