Contractor Starting Improvements in Downtown Hendersonville

HENDERSONVILLE – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation is starting a project to resurface North King Street and upgrade curb ramps on along the street from South Main Street to Asheville Highway.

Weekday lane closures may impact traffic while crews upgrade the ramps to meet standards established by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Nightly lane closures during the week will allow crews to safely upgrade the roadway.

The contract schedule calls for closures Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. for curb work, and lane closures from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. for resurfacing — with no closures on weekends or holidays — through Oct. 15.

These operations are part of a $2.5 million contract awarded to APAC/Harrison as the lowest qualified bidder.

Transportation officials remind drivers to plan ahead, remain alert and obey all posted traffic signs.
