CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $13.9 million contract this spring to begin improvements to nine bridges at the Interstate 77/Interstate 277 interchange, just north of uptown Charlotte.
Mountain Creek Contractors Inc. of Mount Pleasant, S.C. earned the contract to improve and extend the service life of each bridge.
Some of the work includes:
- Bridge deck repairs
- Structural steel repairs
- Cleaning/painting structural steel
- Bridge joint rehabilitation
- Substructure repairs
- Cleaning/painting bridge bearings
The bridge improvements will require regular overnight lane and ramp closures which start this week. On Monday through Thursday nights, crews can work from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., and on Friday and Saturday nights, crews can work from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. No closures will be scheduled during holidays.
The project should be complete in summer 2025.
Drivers should remain alert, use caution, and reduce speed approaching the work zone.
