New Ramps, Lanes Open Ahead of Fair

RALEIGH – A pair of ramps along Interstate 440 and new lanes on Hillsborough Street are set to open over the next week, helping ease traffic for the N.C. State Fair.

Crews plan to open new ramps at the Wade Avenue interchange overnight Sunday. Eastbound Wade Avenue traffic will no longer take the loop ramp to the right to access I-440 East; instead, traffic will take a new ramp on the left to get on the Beltline. The other new ramp is a loop that connects I-440 East drivers to westbound Wade Avenue.

On Hillsborough Street, drivers can expect occasional lane closures over the next week as crews prepare to open all four lanes between I-440 and the new connector to Blue Ridge Road. This will help traffic flow to and from the fairgrounds and several concerts scheduled at PNC arena during the Fair.

Drivers should anticipate these new traffic patterns and be mindful of crews throughout the work zone.

This work is part of the ongoing project to widen the Beltline and improve Blue Ridge Road at Hillsborough Street.
