Forsyth County Highway Requires Overnight Closures

RURAL HALL – An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will close a stretch of U.S. 52 in Forsyth County for two nights this week for bridge construction.

On Wednesday and Saturday, weather permitting, U.S. 52 in both directions from exit 115 to 120 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for crews to set girders for the Ziglar Road bridge.

The closures are necessary due to the size of the girders. They are nearly 170 feet long and weigh approximately 100 tons each, requiring large cranes that will cover the highway.

Signed detours will guide northbound and southbound traffic around the closure. U.S. 52 north traffic will exit at University Parkway and continue onto N.C. 65 to Taboaccoville Road back onto U.S 52. Southbound traffic will exit at Westinghouse Road and continue onto N.C. 65, before returning to U.S. 52.

Drivers are advised to plan for delays using the detours.
