Jackson County License Plate Agency to Close on Friday

ROCKY MOUNT –The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles’ license plate agency (LPA) in Jackson Co. will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 15 after the current operator’s contract ends.

The current agency, at 454 E. Main St., in Sylva, has been operated by Barry and Debra Woods since 2021.

NCDMV announced in October an application period for a new contractor in Jackson Co.​ and plans to open a location there under the Jackson Co. Government as soon as possible.
In the meantime, three nearby license plate agencies offer service Monday through Friday:

Bryson City, 101 Mitchell St., from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Waynesville, 80 Waynesville Plaza, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Franklin, 353 Westgate Plaza, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

LPAs offer vehicle registration services and title transactions, as well as vehicle license plate renewals, replacement tags and duplicate registrations. Currently, 124 license plate agencies operate in North Carolina.

People are reminded that many vehicle services can be completed online, including property tax payments and registration renewals. To get started, please visit MyNCDMV.gov.
