Temporary Ramp Closures Scheduled for N.C. 55 Bypass as Part of Complete 540 Project

​​RALEIGH - The North Carolina Turnpike Authority is continuing construction of the southern portion of the Complete 540 Phase 1 Project, which will extend the Triangle Expressway (Toll N.C. 540) from N.C. 55 Bypass to Interstate 40.

Beginning on or around January 18 at midnight, the loop from the northbound lanes of the N.C. 55 Bypass to Toll N.C. 540 West will be temporarily closed to traffic. Drivers travelling on the northbound lanes of the N.C. 55 Bypass will make a U-turn at East Williams Street to access Toll N.C. 540 from the southbound lanes of the N.C. 55 Bypass. Signage will be in place directing drivers through the ramp closure detour. The closure is expected to be​ in place until 5:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19.

The ramp closure and associated detour are weather dependent. Drivers should slow down and pay extra attention when navigating the detour route.
