Contract Awarded for North Mecklenburg Improvements

CORNELIUS – The N.C. Department of Transportation recently awarded a $15 million contract to complete two complimentary projects in Cornelius and Davidson to improve mobility through these busy Charlotte suburbs.

The first project will deliver a roundabout at the intersection of N.C. 115 and Potts Street in Cornelius, replacing the existing T-intersection. The intersection will be shifted west of its current location, requiring a portion of both NC 115 and Potts Street to be realigned.

The companion project will join Potts, Sloan, and Beatty streets in Davidson, serving as a parallel route to N.C. 115. This new parallel route is anticipated to  improve mobility through the downtown area. Roundabouts will be built near the N.C. 115/Potts street intersection and also at the existing Sloan/Beatty/Griffith street intersection.

Contractor Caton Construction Group Inc. out of Virginia will handle both projects. Utility relocation is already underway for the work in Cornelius which will be completed first before moving to Davidson to complete the remainder of the work.

Both projects should be completed in fall 2026, with landscaping and vegetation establishment continuing through spring 2027.
