SHELBY– The N.C. Department of Transportation is closing McBrayer Homestead Road over a branch of Sandy Run on Monday, Feb. 19 to begin replacing the existing bridge.
A $1.2 million project was recently given to Claremont contractor Kemp Sigmon Construction Col, Inc.
Drivers will detour around the closure using Sunset Boulevard and Pleasant Bridge Church Road, returning to McBrayer Homestead Road.
The detour is anticipated to continue through November or until the bridge construction is complete to open the road to traffic. Vegetation establishment and landscaping work will continue into spring 2025.
