Rescheduled - Temporary Road and Lane Closures Scheduled as Part of Complete 540 Project

RALEIGH - The North Carolina Turnpike Authority is continuing construction of the southern portion of the Complete 540 Project, which will extend the Triangle Expressway (Toll N.C. 540) from N.C. 55 Bypass to Interstate 40.

Beginning on or around March 16 at 5:00 a.m. through March 17 at 5:00 a.m., U.S. 401 where it connects with Donny Brook Road will experience temporary intermittent single lane closures. Flaggers will be in place directing traffic through the lane closures. Drivers should expect delays and should pay close attention when driving through the work zone.

During this time period, Donny Brook Road between U.S. 401 and Ransdell Road is also scheduled to temporarily close to through traffic. Local access along Dony Brook Road east of Ransdell Road will be maintained throughout the scheduled closure. Drivers are strongly encouraged to plan to avoid the area, if possible. If drivers must be in the area, they are advised to take the detour route by following signs along the roadway.

Drivers wishing to access Donny Brook Road from U.S. 401 northbound will use the following detour route:

  • Drive north on U.S. 401
  • Turn left onto Ten Ten Road
  • Turn left onto Lake Wheeler Road
  • Turn left onto Donny Brook Road

Drivers wishing to access Donny Brook Road from U.S. 401 southbound will use the following detour route:

  • Drive south on U.S. 401
  • Turn right onto Ransdell Road
  • Turn right onto Donny Brook Road

The lane closures, road closures and detours have been coordinated with Wake Technical Community College Southern Wake Campus and will allow for continued operations during construction activities. Wake Tech Way at U.S. 401 will be closed during this time. All other access locations to the Wake Tech campus will remain available.

Lane closure, road closure and detour signs will be installed, directing motorists through the detour route. Drivers should slow down and pay extra attention when navigating the detour route.
