HICKORY – The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $4.8 million contract to improve nearly 19 miles of Catawba County roads.
Contractor Maymead Inc. out of Tennessee can start the project as soon as April 1 to mill, resurface and rebuild shoulders on 2.5 miles of U.S. 70 West from U.S. 321 to the Burke County line, and 24 sections of secondary roads within the county.
Any necessary lane closures to complete the work should take place outside of peak travel times and major holidays.
The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2025.
