A Downtown Wilson Street Requires Closure for Drainage Work

WILSON – A section of Nash Street in downtown Wilson will be closed for most of April for drainage improvements.

State maintenance crews will be replacing pipes with larger culverts that will improve the flow of water underneath the roadway at these three Nash Street intersections:

  • Raleigh Road Parkway
  • Cone Street North
  • Lucas Avenue North

Crews will close one intersection at a time, starting at Raleigh Road Parkway, for the pipe upgrade, then move on to the next intersection, until all three locations are replaced. As a result, 0.3 miles of Nash St. will be closed to thru-traffic, as noted on this Google map.

The closure is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. April 1 and end by April 26 when all of the drainage work is completed.

Detour signs will direct drivers onto Ward Boulevard (N.C. 42), Tilghman Road, Corbett Avenue and Atlantic Christian College Drive. Drivers should expect a longer commute using the detour and be careful near the work site.
