Duplin County Bridge Replacement Project Set to Begin

CALYPSO – The N.C. Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin construction on a new bridge in Duplin County this month.

The southbound lanes of U.S. 117 South Bypass will close at 7 a.m. April 20 to allow the NCDOT contractor to install a pipe that runs underneath the lanes.

Drivers will be detoured onto U.S. 117 Connector and N.C. 50. The work is to be complete this same weekend.

The drainage improvement is the beginning of a larger project in the area. On April 29, contract crews will close the northbound lanes of U.S. 117 to replace the bridge over the railroad tracks.

Drivers will be detoured onto West Main Street, N.C. 50 and U.S. 117 Connector. The southbound lanes will remain open.

When the new, northbound lanes reopen, the southbound lanes will close for improvements.

The project is scheduled to be completed in spring 2026.
