New Jacksonville License Plate Agency to Open May 21

ROCKY MOUNT – The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles will open a new full-service license plate agency (LPA) on May 21 in Jacksonville. The agency will be operated by Gairy Canady and will be located at 1606 Country Club Rd., in Jacksonville.  The LPA will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday, except on state holidays.

“I am glad to have this full-service office back up and running to provide the much-needed service to the residents of Onslow County,” said DMV Commissioner Wayne Goodwin.

The previous full-service LPA was closed in November due to contract violations.  In January, the Division opened a temporary state-operated express office, at 299 Wilmington Hwy. (U.S. Hwy. Bus. 17) to provide services until a new contractor could be identified and trained. This temporary office will close when the new agency opens.

In North Carolina, NCDMV oversees LPAs, but the agencies are managed by private businesses or local governments.

LPAs offer vehicle registration services and title transactions, as well as vehicle license plate renewals, replacement tags, handicap placards and duplicate registrations. There are 123 license plate agencies operating across North Carolina.

Services such as property tax payments and registration renewals can also be completed online at MyNCDMV.gov.
