RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.

NC Transportation Summit 2024

Transportation leaders from across the country have new connections and industry insight thanks to the N.C. Transportation Summit. The N.C. Department of Transportation, NC GO! and NC Chamber hosted the fifth annual Summit this week in Greensboro.

The Summit kicked off with the keynote speaker, New York Jets Defensive Lineman Solomon Thomas, discussing mental health.

Topics from artificial intelligence and transportation funding were also explored, and a trade show featured dozens of vendors and opportunities to learn how to work at and with NCDOT.

Videos of most Summit sessions are available on the department’s website at ncdot.gov/Summit.

Memorial Day Construction Halting

It’s one of the busiest travel times of the year, Memorial Day weekend, and NCDOT wants you to arrive safely at your destination.

The department will pause most construction activities that require lane closures on interstates, U.S. and N.C. routes from Friday morning, May 24, through Tuesday evening, May 28.

The Governor’s Highway Safety Program is running its statewide Memorial Day “Click it or Ticket” Campaign now through June 2.

Law enforcement will increase patrols across all 100 counties to encourage seatbelt usage.

Future Interstate 685 Sign Unveiling

This week, the department unveiled Future Interstate 685 signage, celebrating future plans to convert U.S. 421 to interstate standards between Greensboro and Dunn.

This future interstate will play a critical role in continuing to spur economic growth in the area.
