One Week Lane Closure Coming to Green River Bridge

FLAT ROCK – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close one westbound lane of the Interstate 26 bridge over the Green River on Sunday night through Thursday night.

Crews from Flatiron Constructors will utilize safe conditions created by the closure to add asphalt necessary for a future traffic switch on the Peter Guice Memorial Bridge. Transportation officials anticipate this operation concluding by 7 a.m. on Friday.

This work is part of a $32 million retrofitting project that will bring the bridge up to modern standards by adding new steel, repairing expansion joints, and other structural improvements.

The project is currently scheduled to conclude in the fall of 2025.

Transportation officials remind drivers that the posted speed limit is 45 MPH approaching and through the work zone. Drivers should remain alert and obey all posted traffic signs.
