RALEIGH - The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.

NCDMV Credentials

The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles unveiled the state’s most secure licenses and IDs ever, this week.

New driver licenses, permits, and identification cards will now feature the latest in card security design and construction specifically designed to combat fraud.

The state’s new credential is a 100% polycarbonate card that is personalized using laser engraving technology and contains more than 50 security features to assist law enforcement in the deterrence and detection of fraud.

The current design will be phased out by the end of June, but current licenses and ID cards will remain valid until their expiration date.

100 Deadliest Days of Summer

With Memorial Day behind us, we’ve entered a dangerous time on the road, known as the 100 deadliest days of summer.

The time between Memorial Day and Labor Day sees a significant spike in deadly crashes for teen drivers.

The department urges teens and everyone behind the wheel to slow down, put away your phones, don’t drink and drive, and always wear a seat belt.
