GOLDSBORO – A section of Royall Avenue near a busy intersection in Goldsboro will close nightly for construction this month.
An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor is realigning the complicated intersection of Royall Avenue, Central Heights and North Berkeley Boulevard (U.S. 13). The contractor will install drainage structures on Royall Avenue in the vicinity of the U.S. 70 overpasses.
The drainage work will require Royall Avenue to close in both directions daily from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. June 10 through June 19.
Drivers should be mindful that the detour of North Spence Avenue, Cashwell Drive and North Berkeley Boulevard will lengthen their trips, and they should be cautious traveling in the work zone.
The work is part of a $17.3 million construction project to realign the North Berkeley Boulevard intersections with Central Heights Road and Royall Avenue, which are bisected by a railroad track, into one intersection on the track's northside.
Construction started last summer, and is scheduled to be completed by August 2025.
