RALEIGH – Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation plan to close several ramps along Interstate 440 this week as part of traffic shifts for the
ongoing widening project.
Starting tonight near 9 p.m., the I-440 East ramps at the Hillsborough Street interchange are set to close for about nine days. Until the ramps reopen, traffic will be detoured to the Wade Avenue interchange to return to Hillsborough.
Weather permitting, the ramp from I-440 East to Wade Avenue will close for several hours starting at 9 p.m. Wednesday. Traffic during this closure will detour to Lake Boone Trail and Ridge Road to return to Wade Avenue.
During this time, the Western Boulevard ramp to I-440 East is also set to close and is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Traffic will detour to westbound I-440 and Melbourne Road to access I-440 East.
Transportation officials remind drivers to plan ahead, remain alert and obey all posted traffic signs.
