This Week at NCDOT: Hurricane Season, Interstate 40 Lanes, NC By Train

Peak Hurricane Season

While September may mean cooler temperatures across North Carolina, residents should be alert that its also the most active month of hurricane season.

So far this year, the state has been impacted by Tropical Storm Debby.

Just like then, crews from the mountains to the coast are prepared and ready to mobilize if a storm is to threaten our state.

Before, during and after a storm, people are encouraged to visit ReadyNC.gov for important hurricane season information, and also DriveNC.gov for real-time traffic, including weather-related impacts to transportation.

Interstate 40 Lanes Open South of Raleigh

All new lanes of Interstate 40 in Wake and Johnston counties are fully open for commuters and visitors.

Prior to construction, there were two or three lanes in each direction. Now, most of the 13 miles south of Raleigh is up to four or five lanes in each direction.

NC By Train Offering Special Stops

Whether you love funnel cakes or football, NC By Train is taking passengers across the state to several events this fall.

NC By Train will offer a special stop at the N.C. State Fair Oct. 18 through 27.

On Oct. 26, riders can head to the Lexington Barbecue Festival where NC By Train will make eight stops in town.

Also, more fans can take the train to Charlotte for Carolina Panthers’ home games. This year there are six opportunities to take NC By Train to games before kickoff.
