Road Upgrades Coming to Wake County

RALEIGH- More than two dozen miles of roadway in Wake County will be upgraded thanks to a recently awarded contract by the N.C. Department of Transportation to Fred Smith Company.

Crews will mill, resurface and reconstruct shoulders for more than 15 miles in Wake County. The $2.7 million contract allows crews to start work in the spring of 2025 and be complete, except for planting, fall of 2026.

Mitchell Mill Road, from Watkins Road to near Louisbury Road and Watkins Road, from Mitchell Mill Road to Milburnie Road are among the 27 sections of secondary roads in the area that will see improvements.

While crews work, drivers can expect lane closures. The department will provide more traffic updates on DriveNC.gov prior to work beginning.
