RALEIGH- A traffic shift related to work on a passenger rail project is scheduled for Durant Road this weekend.
Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation will narrow lanes between Hawksmoor and Capital Hills drives to allow for the construction of a bridge as part of the S-Line Passenger Rail Service. Once complete, the bridge will carry Durant Road traffic over the railroad tracks.
Work begins Dec. 12, with crews blocking the center turn lane to remove turn arrows along Durant Road. Drivers will still be able to make left turns or U-turns at certain points where signed. Similar traffic changes will happen on Dec. 13.
Then, on Dec. 14, lanes will be shifted and markings removed.
Traffic patterns may adjust throughout the day, but at least one lane in each direction will stay open.
The traffic shift will remain in place throughout most of the construction of the bridge. The project is anticipated to be complete by spring 2027.
While there is no detour, NCDOT encourages drivers to seek an alternate route, and if not possible, plan ahead as it will take longer. Drivers should also use caution near construction sites.
