ELIZABETH CITY – A crash-prone curve in Elizabeth City will be receiving safety improvements under a $2 million contract recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
The contract, awarded to C.D. Rose Construction of Nags Head, will realign the curve just north of Berea Church Road on Main Street Extension. The work will also include replacing a large culvert and making traction improvements.
The curve on Main Street Extension has seen a consistent pattern of single vehicle crashes over the last 10 years, with 11 crashes in total, four heading southbound and seven northbound.
Work on the safety improvement project is scheduled to begin in the spring.
