LIBERTY - A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will shift U.S. 421 North traffic to a temporary detour late next week.
Beginning the morning of Dec. 19, crews will divert traffic to the detour at the intersection of Starmount Road, approximately mile marker 186.
This temporary shift will allow contract crews from Ames Construction to begin work on the median and construct two new bridges related to improvements on U.S. 421.
The detour will be in place until further notice as work on the interchange is completed.
Recently, crews completed work on the new interchange at Julian Airport Road north of the Starmount Road intersection.
Signs and markings will direct motorists onto the new detour which will take drivers around the work zone to continue north on the highway.
Drivers should obey all posted signs and use caution when approaching the work zone.
