Crews to Install Traffic Light at Pender County Intersection

UPDATE – The new traffic lights at U.S. 421 and Malpass Corner Road will become fully operational after rush hour, the morning of Feb. 11.

BURGAW – The N.C. Department of Transportation will begin the installation of a traffic light at a Pender County intersection next week.

Work for this signal is expected to begin Jan. 21 at the intersection of U.S. 421 and Malpass Corner Road. The traffic lights are anticipated to be in use by mid-February, but the department will notify the public ahead of time.

Currently, drivers on U.S. 421 do not stop, while Malpass Corner Road drivers stop at a stop sign. This traffic pattern change is anticipated to improve safety.

Drivers should be alert to crews working for several weeks in the area, and then again when the lights become functional.
