SALUDA – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close one lane of Interstate 26 West in Polk County starting Monday.
Crews from Watson Contracting will need five days to add a drainage structure, install guardrail and finish paving in a stretch north of Indian Mountain Road. They recently completed operations of drainage pipes in the median, installing guardrail at other locations and rebuilding the median shoulder of westbound lanes.
These operations are part of a $16.5 million project to improve drainage and safety along a stretch of I-26. Following this operation, crews will address a small slide area then finalize the project with punch-list items.
