Overnight Closures Coming to N.C. 9 for Helene Repair

ASHEVILLE - A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will conduct overnight closures of N.C. 9 starting Monday to safely install a retaining wall on the highway near Crooked Creek Road.

GeoStabilization International will close the highway from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. on Monday through Friday nights. Crews will use soil nails to stabilize a slope failure that NCDOT crews have been addressing since Hurricane Helene.

One lane will be open to traffic with automatic temporary signals during daytime hours when crews will likely be working in close quarters.

A marked detour will direct southbound drivers to Chestnut Hill Road, Flat Creek Road, and Morgan Hill Road, and northbound drivers on the same roads in reverse order.

Residents who drive on Crooked Creek Road will have nighttime access to N.C. 9 from north of the intersection with Crooked Creek Road or from the McDowell County side of the road.
