Duplin County Highway Will Receive Drainage Improvements

BEULAVILLE – A 10-mile stretch of N.C. 111 in Duplin County will have intermittent closures this spring while crews replace several drainpipes.

The N.C. Department of Transportation will replace pipes at 14 locations along the highway between N.C. 241 in downtown Beulaville and N.C. 11. The pipes are nearing the end of their useful life, and will be replaced with larger pipes to improve storm drainage.

Crews plan to work on one pipe at a time, closing that section of roadway roughly from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. Afterward, they will patch the roadway and reopen it to traffic. They will do this work only Monday through Thursday, starting near N.C. 241 and working northward along N.C. 111.

They plan to begin March 10 and finish by June, weather permitting. People will have access to their homes and businesses during construction, but the work site will be barricaded for safety until the conclusion of the day. NCDOT plans to resurface N.C. 111 later this year.

The detour for through-traffic will be send drivers along N.C. 241 to Pink Hill and N.C. 11 to access N.C. 111. Drivers should be mindful of the longer commute and be cautious near the work site.
