WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH – Routine bridge maintenance will require a lane closure to be instituted next week on the four-lane Causeway Drive (U.S. 76) bridge in this coastal community.
Crews with the N.C. Department of Transportation will be fixing concrete spalling, which is normal wear that causes tiny pieces of concrete to flake off, as well as doing other touch-up work to the side of and underneath the bridge.
This kind of regular maintenance will require them to close one of the outside lanes, which are nearest the sidewalks, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. April 7-11.
When they close one outside lane, the other three lanes will remain open to traffic, but drivers should slow down and be alert for workers and equipment while crossing this bridge.
The crews will start Monday by closing the outside lane leading into Wrightsville Beach. They may continue this lane closure for a day or two, depending on the maintenance needed on that side of that bridge. Then, they'll switch to the outside lane leaving the beach town.
