New Traffic Pattern for Wake County Intersection

This is the Forestville/U.S. 401 intersection in Raleigh.

RALEIGH — Contract crews plan to implement temporary lane closures this week at the intersection of Louisburg Road (U.S. 401) and Forestville Road as part of a project to enhance traffic flow and safety.

Beginning Thursday, April 24, crews will close lanes starting at 7 p.m., with some lanes reopening by 6 a.m. the following morning. Daytime work will continue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through July 17.

As part of the upcoming traffic pattern changes:

  • Left turns from Louisburg Road onto Forestville Road will be temporarily closed with possible reopening by the end of May.
  • Thru lanes and left-turn lanes from Forestville Road onto Louisburg Road will be permanently closed.

The work is weather dependent and subject to change.

Drivers will need to adjust how they get through the intersection:

  • Traffic on Louisburg Road (U.S. 401) must go past the intersection, make a U-turn, and return to reach their destination.
  • Drivers on Forestville Road must turn right, then use the next U-turn on Louisburg Road to head in the direction they want.

These changes are part of a planned conversion of the intersection to a Reduced Conflict Intersection (RCI), a design intended to improve safety by limiting the number of potential conflict points between vehicles.
