GREENVILLE - A contractor with the N.C. Department of Transportation will close a section of Dickinson Avenue for repairs next week.
Beginning the morning of May 12, Dickinson Avenue from West 8th Street to Reade Circle will be closed as crews from Fred Smith Company perform utility work.
Crews will start with sewer and water work, then move on to various curb and gutter operations before concluding with general roadway improvements.
Once this section of roadway work is complete, similar work will begin further down Dickinson Avenue from West 8th Street to Ficklen/South Pitt Street.
Detour signs will be installed for traffic and pedestrians.
The work is part of an improvement plan by NCDOT and the city of Greenville for the 1.3-mile stretch of Dickinson Avenue.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution when navigating around the work zone and pay attention to the advised detour routes.
Drivers should also use DriveNC.gov for real-time traffic information.
