HILLSBOROUGH – As part of the ongoing Interstate 40 Widening Project in Orange County, the N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close a section of Old N.C. 86 overnight to allow for bridge demolition activities over I-40.
Beginning
tonight, Old N.C. 86 will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the first night, and from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through May 20, weather permitting. The closure will affect the section between the westbound and eastbound ramps.
During the closures, a signed detour will guide motorists around the work zone via Waterstone Drive, N.C. 86, and New Hope Church Road.
These temporary closures are necessary to safely complete the demolition of the existing bridge structure over I-40.
Drivers should plan ahead for possible delays and be alert when following detours.
