HENDERSONVILLE - A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close a short stretch of Interstate 26 near the Green River bridge beginning this weekend and repeat the closure again the following weekend.
Starting at 7 p.m. on May 18, crews from Flatiron-Dragados Construction will close the outside lane of I-26 East in order to safely build shoulder berm gutter, install new guardrail and pave a section near the Green River bridge.
The lane is scheduled to open by 7 a.m. on May 23 to allow free-flowing traffic over the weekend. No daytime closures are permitted on Fridays or weekends. This operation will repeat starting Sunday, May 25.
This operation is part of a $27 million project to widen and rehabilitate the Green River bridge. Engineers anticipate completing all operations late this fall.
