MOCKSVILLE – An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will begin a bridge replacement project next week in Davie County, requiring the long-term closure of Pinebrook School Road and several overnight closures on Interstate 40.
Beginning at 2 p.m. on Monday, Pinebrook School Road will be
closed at the bridge over I-40 so that Smith-Rowe, LLC can safely remove and replace the structure. The road is expected to reopen by early August 2026.
During the closure, a signed detour will guide drivers along Pinebrook Drive, Farmington Road, and U.S.158. Local access will be maintained for residents on either side of the bridge up to the point of closure.
As part of the bridge removal project, I-40 will be closed nightly between Exits 174 (Farmington Road) and 180 (N.C. 801), starting June 16. Eastbound lanes will close overnight from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. on select nights throughout mid-June and early July. Westbound lanes will be closed overnight on alternating nights during this period. No closures are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday nights.
During each closure, traffic will be detoured via N.C. 801, U.S. 158, and Farmington Road. Access to the Davie County I-40 Rest Area at mile marker 177 will also be restricted.
Motorists should remain alert, use caution when traveling through the area, and follow posted detour signs. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
