New Roundabout Traffic Pattern Coming to Alamance County

GRAHAM – The N.C. Department of Transportation will implement a new traffic pattern at the intersection of N.C. 54 (Harden Street) and N.C.49 (Elm Street) in Alamance County, starting Saturday.

The change will convert the current signalized intersection into a roundabout, enhancing safety and improving traffic flow.

To prepare for this transition, N.C.54 (Harden Street) will be temporarily closed from 6:00 p.m. on Friday until noon on Saturday. This closure will allow crews to finalize work and safely shift traffic to the new roundabout configuration.

NCDOT crash data shows that roundabouts can reduce fatal and injury crashes by 76 percent, frontal-impact crashes by 75 percent, and total crashes by 46 percent. Additional information including a video on how to navigate roundabouts can be found on the NCDOT roundabouts page.

Motorists are advised to stay alert when approaching the new traffic pattern, obey posted speed limits, and allow extra time as they adjust to the roundabout.
