ELIZABETH CITY – The N.C. Department of Transportation is advising motorists in Elizabeth City to use extra caution overnight Thursday into Friday, due to a planned power outage scheduled by Elizabeth City.
The outage will affect multiple traffic signals throughout the city. During the outage, any traffic signal that is dark should be treated as an all-way stop. Drivers are urged to approach all affected intersections carefully, come to a complete stop, and proceed only when safe to do so.
When power is restored, some traffic signals may enter an all-red flash mode. Intersections operating in this mode should also be treated as all-way stops until the signals are fully reset.
NCDOT will have a traffic signal technician on standby within Elizabeth City throughout the duration of the outage to promptly address any signal malfunctions that occur when power is restored.
Please drive safely, remain alert, and follow all posted traffic rules during this temporary service disruption.
