MAYODAN - Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close the bridge on Island Drive over Beaver Island Creek next week.
Beginning Aug. 11, crews from Smith-Rowe, LLC will begin work to replace the 54-year-old bridge, with reopening scheduled for mid-December.
Signs are posted directing motorists to the 5.4-mile detour route below:
- From Highway 704 west to Cardinal Road
- Cardinal Road south to K Fork Road
- K Fork Road east to U.S. Highway 311
- U.S. Highway 311 to Island Drive
Motorists are encouraged to use caution when approaching the detour route and use
DriveNC.gov for real-time traffic information.
