WILSON – The Carolina Coastal Railroad has informed state highway officials it plans to close part of Airport Boulevard in Wilson next week to do maintenance on its railroad crossing.
Crews plan to close the boulevard west of Raleigh Road Parkway beginning next Tuesday morning, Aug. 26. They aim to complete the track maintenance and reopen the road by Aug. 29.
A detour will send drivers onto Merck Road from both directions. However, people who live in the Gloucester subdivision near the tracks will not be able to enter or exit their neighborhood from Airport Boulevard during the closure; they instead will need to use Heritage Drive or Westwood Avenue.
Drivers should anticipate a longer commute and be alert while the railroad crossing is under construction.
