Resurfacing, New Curb Ramps Coming to Brevard

BREVARD – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation is cleared to begin road rehabilitation operations along Broad Street (U.S. 64) between North Country Club Road and North Caldwell Street as early as this weekend.

This fall, crews from APAC Atlantic will install ADA complaint curb ramps, mill out the old asphalt and resurface the road, providing a smoother ride for drivers and safer accommodations for pedestrians.

Improvements along this stretch are part of a $3.5 million contract to resurface more than 19 miles of road in Transylvania County over the next two years.

Transportation officials anticipate only single-lane closures when crews are working in the area. Most operations will be conducted at night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Transportation officials remind drivers to remain alert, watch for pedestrians and obey all posted traffic signs.
