This Week at NCDOT: Deputy Ned P. Byrd Bridge Dedication, NC State Football Traffic, NC Transportation Summit, and NC Quick Pass

RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.

Deputy Ned P. Byrd Bridge Dedication

On Aug. 15, 2022, Deputy Byrd gave his life in the line of duty.

His family, friends, colleagues, and the department gathered to honor him, dedicating the bridge on Auburn Knightdale Road over the Neuse River.

A pair of signs now stand at the bridge, a lasting reminder of his courage and sacrifice, thanks to a request from Wake County Sheriff Willie Rowe and a resolution by the Wake County Board of Commissioners in July 2024.

"From this day forward, on his bridge, you will be crossing over a bridge of opportunity to make a difference" Rowe said.

NC State Football Traffic

We’re just days away from NC State’s first football game of the season!  Aug. 21 at 7 p.m., the Pack takes on East Carolina, and you can bet Carter-Finley will be buzzing. Like every home game, traffic will be heavy, so plan ahead.

This year’s traffic pattern will be the same as last year. Construction is still happening on Blue Ridge Road and the State Highway Patrol will keep things moving so you can get in and out smoothly and focus on the gameday experience.

NC Transportation Summit

The 2025 North Carolina Transportation Summit is less than two weeks away. Hosted by NCDOT, NC GO and the NC Chamber, the annual event brings together industry leaders, policymakers and innovators to shape the future of mobility across the state.

The Summit will be held Sept. 3-4 at the Raleigh Convention Center.
