APEX – Plans are underway to repair the failed culvert on Olive Chapel Road between Ashley Downs Drive and Patterson Grove Road.
On Aug. 6, heavy rainfall caused Beaver Creek to swell, collapsing one of the two metal pipes beneath the road. The pipe failure and erosion undermined the roadway, forcing its closure.
The N.C. Department of Transportation plans to award a contract to complete the repair in late October 2025. In the meantime, NCDOT is working with property owners to acquire the necessary right-of-way and secure rights of entry. Utility crews are already on-site to relocate lines.
The section of Olive Chapel Road is expected to reopen to traffic in late January.
Officials urge the public to stay away from the collapsed culvert and surrounding area. The damaged pipe and pavement remain unstable and unsafe to walk or climb on. Motorists and pedestrians should respect all barricades and cones and avoid the closed area.
