​CHARLOTTE - Emergency track repairs will require CSX Railroad crews to temporarily close N.C. 16/Brookshire Boulevard at Lawton Road at 9 p.m. Thursday, allowing crews to safely fix a broken rail at the crossing.
These repairs will require a full closure of the roadway and offsite detour until 6 a.m. Friday.
Southbound drivers on N.C. 16 will be detoured to Lawton Road, Rozzelles Ferry Road and N. Hoskins Road, returning to N.C. 16. Northbound drivers will follow this detour in reverse.
Truck traffic can get around the closure taking I-85 to Freedom Drive (Exit 34) to Fred D. Alexander Boulevard, returning to N.C. 16.
Portable message boards will be in place on Brookshire Boulevard and I-85 to give drivers advanced notice about the closure. Overhead signs on I-85 North and South approaching Exit 36 will also notify drivers prior to reaching N.C. 16.
