Pavement Resurfacing to Begin This Week on U.S. 64 in Dare County

MANTEO – A contractor for The N.C. Department of Transportation will begin a project to mill and resurface sections of U.S. 64 in Dare County next week, weather permitting.

The project includes a portion of U.S. 64 between the Washington Baum (Pirate’s Cove) and Virginia Dare bridges, as well as approximately 1.75 miles of U.S. 64/264 from its intersection with N.C. 345 to Harriot Street in Manteo.

The Fred Smith Company of Raleigh plans to begin work Oct. 1 if weather permits and will work Mondays through Thursdays until the project is complete later this fall.

Single lane closures will be in effect where work is underway. Motorists should stay alert and slow down where the roadwork is taking place.
