​JACKSONVILLE – A busy Jacksonville intersection will be upgraded thanks to a recently awarded contract by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
The project will improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection of Western Boulevard and Jacksonville Parkway, located near the Cross Pointe Center and Gateway Plaza shopping centers. Planned work includes grading, drainage improvements, paving and traffic signal system enhancements.
NCDOT awarded the $8.5 million contract to Barnhill Contracting Co., which can begin construction as soon as Oct. 27.
The project is scheduled to be substantially complete, except for planting, by the summer of 2027.
