SHELBY – An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will replace pavement markings along Interstate 40 in Catawba County and I-85 in Gaston County.
Crews from TRP Construction Group will replace approximately 24 miles of pavement markings over the next several weeks. The new hot spray thermoplastic pavement markings will be more reflective and durable than typical paint used to line roads.
Crews will begin on I-40 in Catawba County between the bridge over County Home Road in Conover and the Burke County line on Saturday, Oct. 25. Single-lane closures will be installed each night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. until the work is finished. Crews will use a slow-moving operation to install the new pavement markings.
When work is finished in Catawba County, crews will begin installing the new markings on I-85 in Gaston County from the Mecklenburg County line to Mile Marker 13.8
All work is weather permitting and subject to change. Transportation officials urge motorists to stay alert and slow down in the work zones.
