THOMASVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation plans to close some of the lanes of Interstate 85 in both directions next week for a maintenance project.
Beginning at 6 p.m. on Oct. 28, crews will close the two right lanes of Interstate 85 northbound one mile before Exit 102 (Lake Road). This closure will remain in place until 6 a.m., Oct. 29. After this closure, the right lane will remain closed until the newly placed concrete has been cured to support traffic.
The crews will then switch directions, reducing one I-85 southbound lane between 6 p.m. Oct. 29 and 6 a.m. Oct. 30. one mile before Exit 102 (Lake Road); this lane closure will mean drivers southbound will not be able to take Exit 102.
After the closure, the right shoulder closure will remain in place until the newly placed concrete has been cured to support traffic.
The lane closures, which are weather permitting and could be delayed or postponed, are necessary to perform concrete pavement repairs.
Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes and to remain alert when approaching the work zone.
