Contract Awarded for Road Widening in Guilford County

HIGH POINT – A major road improvement project will start this fall in Guilford County thanks to a recently awarded contract by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Nearly 4.5 miles of Johnson Street and Sandy Ridge Road, from Skeet Club Road to Interstate 40, will be widened from two to four lanes.

This well-traveled roadway serves as a key connection between High Point and Greensboro, providing access to major destinations such as the Piedmont Triad International Airport and the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market. The additional lanes are expected to ease congestion, reduce traffic delays and improve overall traffic flow for drivers.

Improvements include a bike lane, multi-use path and sidewalk, along with grading, drainage upgrades, paving and the installation of new traffic signals.

NCDOT awarded the $68 million contract to Blythe Construction Inc, which can begin construction on Oct. 27.

The project is scheduled to be substantially complete, with all lanes fully opened by the fall of 2029.
